Julian Lee was born and grew up close to London and studied Mathematics at Warwick University and Operational Research at the London School of Economics. Before joining the Centre for Global Energy Studies on its creation in 1989, he worked in London and then in Zambia. At the CGES Julian specialises in global oil market analysis and the oil and gas industries of the former Soviet Union, overseeing all of the Centre’s work in this area. He has published many studies and articles on Russian and Caspian oil and gas, both for the CGES and for a variety of industry publications.

Julian is Deputy Editor of the CGES’ ‘Global Oil Insight’ and ‘Monthly Oil Report’. He is also responsible for the CGES’ monthly ‘Oil Market Prospects’ and the ‘Annual Oil Market Forecast and Review’.

Julian is a member of the Editorial Board for the Canadian Energy Research Institute’s ‘Geopolitics of Energy’. He is also a regular speaker at conferences on a wide range of oil- and gas-related subjects and is a frequent commentator on global oil markets for radio, TV and print media.
